Location + Recce Assessment

I will use the photo studio to take photographs for my magazine front cover and film poster. The black background can act as the dark, night time scene. If i was to take these images in the darkness the lighting wouldn't be good which would result in bad quality images. The lighting will highlight my models face and enhance her features which the audience will find attractive and this will draw attention to my products.

This is a suitable location as it is safe, indoors and easily accessed. The studio is within college so i can use it at any time i need. As the room is indoor the shoot will not be affected by the weather. Sound will also not be an issue, but seeing as i will only take photographs in this location it doesn't matter if there are any background noises.
There are lots of cables in the photography studio for all the different equipment, this could be a trip hazard. However it is easily avoidable if all the people i work with know where the cables are and i could use mats to put over loose wires so they aren't exposed on the floor.

The equipment i will use is all powered by electricity, i must be careful not to electrocute myself or anybody else. I will turn off the plugs after i have finished using them and i if any wires look faulty i won't use them.

I will be using a small stepladder to take my images from a greater height. To make this safe i should check it is sturdy on the ground and won't wall over and also wear sensible, flat shoes so i have a better stance on the steps.

I will be using artifical lighting in my images so there shouldn't be a problem with incorrect lighting as i can control it. Although i should check the lights are working properly and i will turn them off after use so they don't over heat.

In the multistorey car park that i will take some shots in there is lots of risks i need to be aware of. As the location is outside i can't control the amount of insects that could appear in the shot but seeing as it is getting into Autumn the insects are reduced and it would be rare for them to be seen.

The car park is also a public place so i cannot stop any members of the public from entering the site, however if i go later in the day when the lighting is darker and more suited for my genre, the car park is also less likely to be used.

Derelict buildings could be seen as a hazard as i am filming in an open top multi-storey car park but I think that the place is very safe as it is well looked after by the council therefore there shouldn't be a problem.

Lack of electricity in the outdoors could be a problem, if i need lighting or any other electrical equipment i won't have a source of power so i will need to use batterys or portable equipment.

Being on the 3rd floor of a multi-storey car park is quite high up but as long as myself and my actors are sensible the height shouldn't be a hazard.

Lighting may be a problem as i am unable to tell what the weather may be like so i will have to hope my filming day brings dry weather and not too much darkness. However i can use portable lamps to shine lights on my actors.

Night operation is similar too lighting, i need to be careful when filming in the dark as it is harder to see danger, but i could also use the lights for comfort and safety to make the surroundings more see-able in the darkness.

Background noise could be a problem for my filming as the location is outdoors and near a road i cannot stop people nearby from making noise or cars from going past. However none of my shots will have any dialogue or sound apart from the sound track and effects which can be added during editing.

Set construction is out of my control, i cannot change the way the car park is set up but i can edit out background buildings that may appear on my shot that aren't necessary.

As with anywhere it is very easy to slip, trip or fall, especially in the dark, this is why i will be using lights so myself and my actors can see where they are going and what is in front of them when it starts to get darker.

Road near by to the car park and in the car park can be a hazard as you don't know when a car will be coming, to prevent an accident i will wear bright clothing than can be seen by oncoming traffic and i will also be extra vigilant near the roads.

Vehicles cannot be controlled by myself and i can't stop a car from going past, if this was to happen i might have to refilm my shot until it goes right and there are no unwanted vehicles in the background.

Weather is a serious hazard factor, if it starts to rain while i am filming this could be dangerous and damage my equipment. To prevent this i will check the weather forecast prior to my filming but i will also have an umbrella on hand ready to cover the equipment from the rain while we pack it away into the car.
