Font Research

Using dafont.com i downloaded some fonts that i thought would be suitable for my products. The fonts i had in mind was quite 'tough and strong' as i think this fits my chosen genre well.

The title used on the Empire magazine varies in colour and effects but always uses the same pointed font. The variations i have looked are is plain, bold colour, a 3D, illuminated effect and a backlit, glowing effect. For my magazine i will test out various effects rather than just using the plain bold colour as sometimes i think it look more effective and attractive with 3D effects that stand up from the page.

Total Film tend not to vary their title font much, usually its just a change of colour, sometimes with the magazine image over lapping the text or an extra graphic across part of a letter. I think that having the head of a model on top of the text looks really effective and professional and i will try this on my magazine cover to see if it gives off the same effect. With the title becoming an iconic logo it can always be read even if part is covered as the audience recognise it's features such as the bold colouring or the pointed letters.

I sampled the fonts that i thought would be most effective for my magazine title on the website. I think the Dead Kansas font looks effective with the little parts that are worn. The Dirty Headline isn't straight and powerful enough and 28 Days Later has too many effect. The Stencilla font is too difficult to read at a quick glance with all the separate parts of letters.
I thought about incorporating a coin into the title on the letter 'O' as it fits in with the storyline of the film. I am unsure of which font i think looks most effective so i will ask my target audience in order to get a reliable opinion.
